Incorporated in 1965 as a residential and light commercial contracting company. Firmin’s honesty, hard work, and perseverance allowed him to become one of the most respected contractors in Baton Rouge. After much recognition and success, Firmin began to concentrate on the commercial market, and his company built numerous schools, churches and retirement homes.
Firmin’s son, H.P. “Pete” Firmin III, began working for his father’s construction firm when he was only eight years old. Pete’s mother was not pleased that her son was interested in the construction industry. She told him, “Stay away from construction, or you will spend the rest of your life digging ditches.” To this Pete’s father responded, “That’s OK, son. Just make sure you dig the big ones.” And a second-generation contractor began his career.
Pete worked for his father after school and during summers until 1985, when Pete earned a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management from Louisiana State University. Not long after finishing his studies, Pete founded what is now Firmin Construction Corporation.
Firmin Construction Corporation faced numerous challenges in the beginning. The company kept itself busy by cobbling together a portfolio of smaller jobs. Pete and his team worked all day on new construction projects while handling building maintenance and repairs during the night. Firmin Construction Corporation’s break into larger work came in 1990, when it was selected to build Jefferson Baptist Church’s new worship center. Due to the young age of the firm and limited capital, Firmin Construction Corporation could not bond such a large project. The pastor of Jefferson Baptist, Pastor T.C. French, Jr., was undeterred with his choice of contractor. He knew the firm would do quality work for a good value and could be trusted on a handshake. Firmin Construction Corporation completed the project on schedule and under budget. Since those formative years, Firmin Construction Corporation has sustained steady growth and has invested its profits in people, resources, and equipment. Firmin Construction’s expanded capabilities allow the firm to better serve clients needs.
The construction industry has certainly changed since Pete Firmin’s father began his contracting firm; however, the current team members of Firmin Construction Corporation know core values such as teamwork, integrity, excellence, and service will always remain.
we owe our success to our dedicated and skilled workforce. Without them, we would cease to exist.
At Firmin, our employees operate as a team. That means that everyone pulls their weight and works together toward the common goals of safety, efficiency, and quality. Managers often find themselves with a hammer in their hands and grease on their palms. No one is too good to do what it takes to please our clients.

As a general contractor, Firmin Construction Corporation oversees construction projects to make sure they are built on time, within budget, and they meet high standards of quality.

At Firmin, we choose to self-perform (as opposed to sub-contract) many critical path tasks of the construction process. Firmin has a team of draftsmen on staff who will listen to your organization’s plans, goals, and visions. Our team will then draft plans that meet all your objectives. Specific goals are set, constraints are established, and problems are solved during the design phase before on site construction even begins.
frequently works with architectural firms who need an experienced contractor to make their designs a reality. At Firmin, we’ve worked with numerous architects on projects in contemporary styles and others that draw inspiration from traditional Louisiana architecture. We win projects because of our competitive bids, but also because of the other qualities we bring to the table:
grasping the concepts behind the designs and understanding technical documentation
possessing the education and experience to construct special building systems
working closely with the architect to create the clients desires
• Attention to Detail
realizing that each aspect of a building complements all the other aspects
and many things can go wrong—from cost and schedule overruns to problems with a building’s structural integrity—if a project is not properly vetted in advance. With Firmin’s pre-construction services, we apply our years of expertise and knowledge to judge a project’s viability across many different areas:
• Conceptual Estimate
Determining whether the projected cost of a building is accurate and the construction timeframe is feasible
• Building Systems Analysis
Reviewing project documents and estimating a building’s energy efficiency. We analyze a number of factors that involve energy use such as air conditioning, insulation and lighting, and make recommendations on ways to improve energy efficiency and save money.
• Constructability Reviews
Reviewing construction documents to confirm that the work requirements are clear, feasible, and achievable.
Undertaking a process of weighing various building options along a cost-benefit continuum to determine the optimum value for both initial and long-term investment plans
to prepare for a disaster, as well as, recovering during the aftermath of one.
Our team, equipment, and resources are on call 24/7 to help your organization get back to normal as quickly and safely as possible. Many industrial facilities and commercial property owners have availed themselves to our quick response times and preparedness to recover from disasters in the past, and we remain on call with them for the future.
